When you run a business, you want to make sure productivity doesn't falter during flu season. If one employee gets the flu and comes to work, the disease can spread, and before you know it, you are down a lot of employees. This will cut into your production and leave you low on available staff. This is why it's important for you to do all you can to decrease the chances of the flu and other illnesses spreading around the workplace.
Give incentives for the flu shot
One of the ways you can decrease the likeliness of your employees coming down with the flu is by convincing them to get the flu shot. You can offer incentives to those who decide to get the flu shot. You can even have a little fun with it. One way you can do this is by holding a raffle for a great prize. All those who come in with proof that they have their flu shot will get a ticket for the raffle. You can also give out small bonuses, give a paid day off or give out two free movie tickets. Anything you can do to encourage your staff to get their shot will help.
Provide hand sanitizer
One of the biggest ways the flu spreads is from people not washing their hands enough. You should provide all of your employees with hand sanitizer at their work stations. Also, put it at the common areas, such as at the coffee pot, the copier and at the time clock. Let them know to use it every time they go to these stations.
Designate a surface cleaner
During flu season, you should designate someone to go around the office a few times a day and wipe down often-touched surfaces with a disinfectant. These surfaces include light switches, door knobs, the copier, the fax, all counter tops and the time clock. Anything that gets touched by numerous employees each day should be wiped down.
Hire a janitorial service
If you don't already have a janitorial service, you should make sure to hire one like Ak Pros for flu season. Make sure they give the entire office a thorough cleaning that includes all surfaces. You want them to come in at least a few times a week. If you already have a janitorial service, you may want to increase the days they come in to clean. This will ensure any areas neglected by your staff are cleaned properly.
By following the tips listed above, you will decrease your chances of losing a lot of staff due to the flu. This means production will remain steady through the sick season.
